“It's classified. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you..."

What’s wrong with the world? They’re making Top Gun II?!

Thinking about that, it suddenly clicked…

I went and checked on IMDb when it came out. 1986. Which was the year I pitched up to an RAF Careers Office to join up, hoping to fly fast jets. I know what you’re thinking. Tom Cruise, your biggest influence? Sad! But it would only have been the final push. I had wanted to be a fighter pilot since I was 8 – it was my only career choice. I watched the BBC TV series “Fighter Pilot”. I read the accompanying book cover to cover. Twice.

I was ready.

Back then, of course, they were telling us that there would be no more wars, because the only future war would be nuclear, and no one wanted to go there. So, my teenage reasoning told me, it was a perfectly safe career, as well as being cool and exciting.

No more wars? Ha!

Anyway, I’ve done an interview with bookbag, where you can find out (if you really care) why I never joined up in the end. And, of course, what 13 Things That Don't Make Sense is all about...

What’s really sad is that I still feel the need for speed.
