Yesterday on the George Lamb Show on BBC 6 Music, we discussed the Lost World volcano in Papua New Guinea (you can listen again here - I'm on 41 minutes in). Scientists have found the three-kilometre wide crater populated by spectacular birds of paradise and kangaroos that have evolved to live in trees. New species include a camouflaged gecko, a fanged frog and a fish called the Henamo grunter, named because it makes grunting noises from its swim bladder. Struck me (and George) as a brilliant place to go on holiday.
A few posts ago, I discussed science Meccas, places you'd want to visit for their inspirational value. I was completely unaware of the Geek Atlas: 128 places where science and technology come alive. Gotta get me a copy - and start travelling more!
